County approves Georgia Forestry Commission fire-tower agreement, authorizes chairman to sign

The Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County voted unanimously June 3 to approve an agreement with the Georgia Forestry Commission to provide fire-tower services for the county from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026. The contract limits the county’s payment to a maximum of $4,738.58 for the contract period.
Chairman Charles Coffey signed a resolution authorizing execution of the agreement after the board’s vote. The agreement specifies that the forestry commission will assign a fire-tower operator (a temporary day-laborer classification) and that either party may terminate the agreement on 30 days’ written notice. Documents attached to the meeting packet describe reporting and billing procedures; Forestry will submit a bill at the end of the contract period and provide documentation of services as needed.
The board considered the contract as a routine intergovernmental agreement designed to support early detection and suppression of forest fires in the county. Commissioner Jason Frost moved to approve the agreement; Commissioner Timothy Biddle seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The county manager and forestry representatives will coordinate any onboarding and reporting responsibilities going forward.
