Council approves new retail electric service contracts for village facilities

Mayor William Tomko told Council that the Village solicited bids through two brokers and received seven competitive proposals; he reported the contracts for the Wastewater Treatment Plant and other village facilities were awarded to Direct Energy Business, L.L.C. and AEP Energy, Inc., respectively. Because electric prices fluctuate daily, he said the ordinances would leave rate figures blank and those figures would be filled the following day with a not‑to‑exceed backup figure consistent with prior Village practice.
Council voted to suspend the rules and adopt Ordinance No. 2026‑41 (NRG/Direct Energy commodity agreement for the WWTP) and Ordinance No. 2026‑42 (master energy purchase agreement with AEP for six locations). Both measures were adopted unanimously as emergency ordinances at the meeting.
