Chagrin Falls says new electric bids will lower wastewater plant costs despite higher overall rates

Mayor William Tomko said the village solicited seven competitive electricity quotes through two brokers to replace contracts that expire June 30, 2026. For the Wastewater Treatment Plant, the winning bidder was Direct Energy at about 6.1 cents per kilowatt-hour; Tomko said that rate "would save roughly $16,000 per year over the next-lowest quote, or approximately $50,000 over the three-year contract term."
Tomko noted the new contracts still represent an overall rate increase of about 8 percent but placed that in context by citing statewide increases "between 11 and 16 percent depending on the source." He said the administration will circulate both contracts to council members for review ahead of formal consideration at the June 22 meeting. Chief Administrator Robert Jamieson confirmed the administration plans to present the two contracts separately — one for the Wastewater Treatment Plant and one for other village facilities.
