During the Feb. 17 special meeting, Commissioner Jon Kangas asked whether adequate public notice had been given for the county administrator interviews scheduled for that day. County Auditor/Treasurer and Interim County Administrator Heather Olson said the notice language was copied from prior meeting notices and that interviews had been announced at the Jan. 13 and Feb. 3 board meetings. County Attorney Kyra Ladd added that the wording "could have been worded better" but there was no intent of secrecy and that announcing the interviews in prior meetings and including them in the minutes satisfied notice practices used previously.
Chair Ron Noon agreed that public-notice requirements had been met through prior public announcements, according to the meeting minutes. The discussion did not result in any change to the meeting schedule or interview process; the interviews proceeded as planned with a structured evaluation run by SGR and concluded with the board choosing a candidate for further negotiation. The minutes do not show a formal legal finding about notice; they instead record the statements and the board's decision to proceed.
