Rockport reports school-choice lottery, expects net gain of seats for next year

Superintendent Mark Branca updated the committee on a school-choice lottery held that morning. He said 39 applications were received and the lottery filled slots in kindergarten, third and seventh grades; the district anticipates 27 incoming school-choice students and expects total next-year enrollment around 168, an increase of 14 school-choice students compared with the current year.
Branca explained operational next steps: applicants will be notified and must accept seats by April 30; if a family declines, the district will offer the seat to the next applicant on the list. He said policy allows a second lottery in August and that he would check parameters for any further outreach to fill remaining ninth-grade slots. "We had 39 school choice applicant applications come in this year... we do anticipate that our incoming school choice enrollment will be 27 students," Branca said.
