District reports early gains on Student Opportunity Act work, shifts MTSS oversight to central office

At the meeting, a staff presenter (introduced as Jody) provided the required annual update on the district's Student Opportunity Act (SOA) plan and described how the SOA supports MTSS, curriculum implementation, instructional coaching and targeted acceleration supports. Jody said early evidence showed improved data practices and that the district is shifting MTSS oversight into the superintendent's office to tie it more closely to instructional leadership and scheduling.
Jody summarized three evidence-based program areas in the plan: (1) an effective student support system (MTSS/MTSS steering), (2) supporting curriculum implementation (including an instructional coach and literacy PD), and (3) targeted academic supports (acceleration specialists). She said unexpectedly lower-than-projected costs for a data analytics product produced a $22,000 savings that was redirected to implement MyFlex Learning at the high school to better schedule student interventions. "We had projected that it was going to be a lot more money… so we have a savings of $22,000 there," Jody said. Committee members asked about the MTSS data protocol and how anonymized cohort reviews drive teacher coaching and targeted interventions; Jody said the district now uses protocols that foreground action steps and progress monitoring.
