Police Chief Welch told the board the department is managing a manpower shortfall after several recent retirements, noting a loss of veteran experience and higher overtime costs. He said the department is continuing operations with newer officers but will miss the institutional knowledge of veteran staff. Welch also announced the department secured roughly $5,000 from a county legislator to replace a damaged speed monitoring sign and that two new police cars were purchased at favorable bids.
Highway superintendent Dave Gunner reported active coordination with the New York State Department of Transportation to secure safety funding for two roundabout projects — one at the I‑90 (400) exit of 20A and another at 78 & 20A — and he said a Mill Road/20A roundabout is being pursued in connection with proposed senior housing in the village. Gunner noted DOT safety funds take time and estimated projects could be about three years out, and said the highway department is planning paving work soon with school bus schedules in mind.
