The committee approved a state‑template middle‑school pathway exploration policy intended to broaden middle‑school students' awareness of career and technical education (CTE) options and to clarify how Rockport will collaborate with Essex North Shore. Jody Goodhue said the policy requires providing 7th‑ and 8th‑grade students' names and addresses to CTE programs so those programs can contact families and advertise tours and information sessions; she noted the district already allows tours and will provide transportation support on request.
Goodhue described the policy's goals as increasing early exposure to pathways and ensuring documentation of on‑site presentations, tours and contact information. She noted the change to a statewide lottery system at Essex North Shore (district allocations are based on a three‑year average), so Rockport's allocation equates to roughly five seats — meaning a true lottery if more students apply than available seats. The committee approved the policy as presented.
