Parks & Recreation outlines pool upgrades, ADA work and community events

Keith Weatherman, Grayson County Parks & Recreation Director, gave the Board an overview of current programs and ongoing facility projects May 14, reporting active youth engagement and several planned improvements.
Weatherman said spring sports include 11 baseball and 10 softball teams with 226 youth athletes, and highlighted the Beyond Limits League that serves children with mental or physical disabilities (15 participants supported by more than 40 volunteers). He said the community pool was scheduled to open for the season on May 23 and that bathroom renovations and new showers are underway; the pool was made ADA‑compliant in 2024. Planned improvements also include ongoing work at Powerhouse ("Waterfalls") to enhance the site for tourism and a July 3 community concert featuring four bands and more than a dozen vendors.
Weatherman told the Board the parks department hopes to expand programs and add swim lessons this year and invited officials to attend Beyond Limits events. The presentation emphasized community engagement, accessibility and maintenance needs across county park facilities.
