Draft C-2 ordinance lists permitted uses, forbids short-term rentals and drive-throughs
Summary
The draft C-2 ordinance enumerates permitted and conditional uses (retail, offices, restaurants, civic uses) while prohibiting short-term/vacation rentals, drive-throughs, vehicle sales/repair, and most industrial or storage uses; taverns would be conditional and limited to two in the C-2 zone.

The draft ordinance circulated at the June 8 session includes a detailed table of permitted, conditionally permitted, and prohibited uses for the C-2 zone.
Permitted uses listed include retail sales, professional and medical offices, personal services (salons, barber), artisan studios and galleries, restaurants and cafés (with outdoor seating accessory), day care and civic/community-serving uses. Conditional uses include large restaurants and taverns (subject to parking, lighting, noise, and operational review); the draft notes a maximum of two taverns in the C-2 zone. The ordinance text explicitly prohibits short-term/vacation rentals, drive-through uses, auto repair, vehicle sales/rental, outdoor storage, contractor yards, and warehousing/distribution. Several conditional uses require additional compatibility, parking, or operational review.
Those use rules are central to the town's policy goal of keeping active commercial operations in the commercial zone and preventing strip-commercial or industrial patterns that would undermine the Historic Core.
