Outside agencies present funding requests to Shenandoah County supervisors

At a Jan. 23 budget work session, the Shenandoah County Board of Supervisors heard funding requests from more than a dozen outside agencies including nonprofits, regional authorities and health entities. Requests ranged from $1,400 for a 4‑H campground to a $390,771 request from the Lord Fairfax Health District; most presenters asked for level funding or modest increases.
Chairman Tim Taylor opened the session at 1:00 p.m. and thanked agencies for their work. Presenters described program missions, client counts and how county support would be used: Katie Tennant requested $1,400 for the Northern Virginia 4‑H Educational Center; Ellen Harrison requested $255,150 for Northwestern Community Services and said their vacancy rate is 12%; Jimmy Roberts asked for $78,000 for Seniors First and said there is currently no Meals on Wheels waiting list. No formal votes were taken at the work session.
