Health district asks Shenandoah County for $390,771, warns state match would fall if reduced

The Lord Fairfax Health District presented a community health assessment and requested $390,771 from Shenandoah County at the board’s Jan. 23 budget work session. Leigh Ann Sweeney said the district provides clinical, environmental and community health services and warned that reducing the county contribution would lead to a cut in state funding.
Chairman Tim Taylor said the board legally could lower the county amount but that doing so would reduce the district’s state match. Supervisor David Ferguson asked what would happen if the county reduced funding; Ms. Sweeney replied the state would cut the district’s funding. The presentation included a fact sheet for Shenandoah County and district staff said they are nearly fully staffed.
