Mayor warns of legal risk if Lowe family ties into Sage septic system

Mayor Richard Sorensen opened the work session by outlining a request from the Lowe family to connect their property east of the Sage Development to Sage's septic system. He reminded the council that the Lowes considered annexation in 2023 but later withdrew that interest; the family now seeks to hook into Sage's system while leaving Huntsville Town as the body politic responsible for oversight.
Town Clerk Beckki Endicott said she had spoken with Summer Day at the County Health Department, and Endicott reported that Day told the Lowes that using Sage's septic system was their only option. Sorensen warned the council that allowing the hookup could create legal or financial exposure for the town and suggested the issue be reviewed further with the town attorney and possibly scheduled for a future work session.
No formal decision or motion was recorded during the June 5 work session. Council members directed staff to pursue additional legal guidance before taking any action on the Lowe family's request.
