Council okays negotiation of Weber Basin water-share sublease, appoints representative to water board

Councilmember Lewis Johnson told the Council May 15 that discussions with a local party could produce a sublease of Huntsville’s Weber Basin water shares that would lower the town’s Weber Basin bill by approximately $7,000. Johnson said the sublease could be negotiated on a year-to-year basis so the town could reclaim shares if needed. The Council authorized staff to negotiate a lease consistent with Huntsville’s billing to Weber Basin.
On the same item cluster, the Council appointed Councilmember Bruce Ahlstrom to the Huntsville Waterworks Board to fill the Council-appointed member seat. Johnson explained that five board members are elected by shareholders and one is appointed by the Council; Ahlstrom’s appointment resolves a length-of-service mismatch that left the Town needing a separate appointee.
Both motions passed unanimously; the council recorded roll-call votes for the water-share negotiation direction and the appointment.
