Huntsville council approves up to $40,000 for Town Hall landscaping

The Huntsville Town Council voted May 15 to approve up to $40,000 to repair sprinkler lines and install new turf around the new Town Hall.
Rex Harris, who presented the bids, recommended repairing the existing irrigation and seeding or sodding the lawn area; he noted one bidder included curbing that would allow future plantings to be staged. Mayor Sorensen reported that $24,000 remained from the new Town Hall grant and additional funds could be drawn from the general fund if needed. Councilmember Sandy Hunter moved to approve up to $40,000 with a preference for the lowest qualified bid; the motion carried 5–0.
Council discussed whether interim turf work would interfere with longer-term landscape plans; Harris advised repair of sod and sprinkler lines would not preclude later, more elaborate landscaping, and that staged curbing could help preserve future design options.
