The Village of Mattawan council on July 13, 2026 approved a motion directing Public Works (DPW) and the Mattawan Police Department (MPD) to post weekly staffing and on-call schedules in their offices and departments beginning Friday July 17 for the week starting July 20. The motion passed on a roll call vote of 5-1; Member Daniel cast the lone no vote. President Stuut raised concerns about staff knowledge of who was on call and which MPD officer was on duty.
Member Streeter raised concerns about a house on Ravenna reported as 'condemned' due to blight; Administrative Assistant Ranney-Holroyd clarified the property was determined not fit for habitation until cleaned and that other police matters remain outstanding. Staff were directed to provide owner/landlord contact information and a deadline to remedy the property and to coordinate with MPD.
