County explores options to relocate food bank; developers offer match for higher-quality building

CEO Bill Everett said the current proposal to move an existing small structure would cost about $250,000 to relocate and make serviceable, but that private developers who reviewed the site offered to build a higher-quality replacement if the community contributes roughly $150,000. "If we're spending $250,000.00, let's see what I can do for $250,000.00 if that is your budget," Everett said, describing a proposal in which $150,000 from local sources would be matched by developer contributions to deliver a better structure near the Metcalf center. Everett said the Economic Development Board committed $50,000 toward the project and the county would assist in finding remaining funds.
Commissioners and staff emphasized accessibility for seniors and co-location opportunities with the senior center. Public commenter Jack Duffield voiced support for the move, calling it a "win-win-win" for accessibility and operations. County staff said further coordination with site owners and funders is required before a final plan is adopted.
