CEO Bill Everett said Sholey agreed to step in to avoid a “financial black period” and that the pay under the MOU is $70 per hour without benefits. "John said he will do us a favor and will step in to help keep us operational," Everett said, adding that the county has had difficulty attracting qualified applicants for professional positions compared with larger jurisdictions.
Commissioners approved the MOU 4–0. Everett and county staff indicated the arrangement is intended to be temporary while recruiting continues; the county also plans to review salary levels to improve competitiveness for future hires.
