Mike Sepic, Berrien County Interim Administrator, asked the Administration Committee on Feb. 26 for guidance on what criteria commissioners expect when evaluating requests to reinstate positions that were eliminated in 2025 to balance the county budget.
Sepic said he currently has a request to consider and sought feedback on required documentation or justification. Committee members discussed what information should accompany any proposal to add a position back. Separately, Mac Elliott noted that historically the Administration Committee chair has had authority to approve county property use requests without a formal committee vote. Vice Chair David Vollrath requested Elliott appoint his ex-officio seat on the Public Works board because those meetings conflict with Vollraths 911 Advisory Council schedule; Sharon Tyler said she would check her calendar about serving on that board. No formal decisions to restore positions were recorded; Sepic will use commissioner guidance when processing the pending request.
