Moab council amends commercial zone to permit medical clinics in C-5 district

Associate Planner Johanna Blanco and Junior Planner Kate Poynter presented a proposed text amendment on June 23 to add "medical clinic" to the list of permitted uses in the C‑5 Neighborhood Commercial Zone (Moab Municipal Code, Title 17, Chapter 17.30). Blanco said the Planning Commission gave a unanimous recommendation for approval and that a current business wishes to expand services to match the medical clinic definition without enlarging its building footprint.
Councilmember Colin Topper moved to approve Ordinance 2026-11 amending Section 17.30.020 Permitted Uses and Regulations to include medical clinics in the C‑5 zone; Councilmember Kaitlin Myers seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Myers asked that a broader correction to allow medical clinics across commercial zones be considered as part of the upcoming code rewrite; staff indicated that broader changes would require additional hearings.
