Council adopts interlocal firefighting agreement and backs mayor’s emergency fireworks authority

Councilmember Kaitlin Myers moved to adopt Resolution 07-2026 approving the Interlocal Agreement with Moab Valley Fire Protection District; Councilmember Tawny Knutson-Boyd seconded and the measure passed unanimously. In response to discussion of a stage-two fire danger, Mayor Joette Langianese and councilmembers expressed support for the mayor's authority to declare an emergency ban on fireworks; City Attorney Lisa Watts Baskin stated the mayor has the statutory authority to issue such a declaration without a council vote.
