Council hears beach and public works updates as toters go missing and stairs remain buried

Beach Superintendent Brian Cassidy told the council that beach stops 37 and 41.5 will remain open for the season, while stairs at stop 38 remain buried about 4 feet and are too difficult to remove now. Cassidy reported several village toters have disappeared from multiple beach stops and said he will coordinate with Republic Services to find a solution.
Cassidy added that reported lake levels are about 7 inches lower than at the same time last year. Public Works Superintendent Rick Reitz said crews have removed 110 loads of leaves around the village but a few small piles remain. Tree Board member Nancy Thill noted AEP trimming work paused to serve Michiana Shores, Indiana for budget reasons and will return to finish trimming once its new budget is approved; Nancy and Rick will coordinate removing trees near the butterfly garden and creek.
