Michiana approves HONK visitor-parking program for non-residents

The Village of Michiana Council voted to implement HONK Parking Operations as a paid visitor-parking system, with fees applying to non-residents only. John Cherewko of HONK gave a presentation describing the service’s features; the company “requires No App” and “accepts all digital payment types like Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal,” the council record states. Tim McCarthy moved to adopt the program at $10 per hour for non-residents; Brian Cassidy seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Council members said the village would retain control over pricing and activation windows, and that HONK can be turned off for special events. HONK’s fees to the municipality were described as $50 per month for service with a 2.9% credit-card transaction fee deducted from payments; HONK will handle transactions and remit payments to the Village on a monthly basis. The council emphasized that residents with a parking tag or golf-cart sticker would not be charged.
