Council highlights Village Hall renovation plans, fundraiser sales

The Village of Michiana Council detailed progress on ongoing renovations to Village Hall, saying work is focused on creating a community space for residents. Tim McCarthy said the committee had staged seating by the fireplace and that new lighting and fans would be installed the week of Sept. 16. “The goal is to create a community center where any resident can come down and use the Village Hall, during office hours, for wi-fi access, read a book, play a board game or just hangout and chat,” McCarthy said.
Council members also described fundraising efforts tied to the renovation. Officials reported the fixtures were purchased with money raised from a House Walk; the council is selling historical wooden wagon-wheel light fixtures for $150 each and said proceeds will go into the renovation fund. The clerk said the first order of new Michiana posters will arrive at the end of the month and that prints can be viewed at Village Hall or on the village website. Councilors asked that renovation proceeds and sales be tracked in the renovation fund.
