Commissioners reviewed options for a potential sales-tax ballot measure meant to lower property tax pressure in Pratt County and discussed trade-offs for 2027 budgeting.
"we have not come down to the conclusion yet, if we'll do a 0.5¢ sales tax or full full cent sales," the Chair said, noting the choice between a half-cent and a full-cent option had not been finalized and that any change would be decided by voters on the ballot.
Speakers framed the measure as an attempt to reduce mill levies and ease property-tax increases. One participant summarized an expected impact with the phrase "By 45%." Commissioners also discussed how statewide mandates and growing costs for insurance, fuel and equipment complicate local efforts to hold the line on rates.
Officials said they are exploring options and will continue budget deliberations in coming weeks to decide whether to place a measure on the August ballot and which rate to propose to voters.
