Commissioners approve HR hires, table Coroner interns until ages verified

The Mercer County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 8 approved a set of human-resources actions, including new hires and separations, and voted to table proposed Coroner Office interns pending confirmation of their ages and applicable clearances.
Under the HR resolutions the board approved Christopher Majonek as a Mapper in the Tax Assessment office (effective Jan. 5, 2026) at a rate listed as $18.53 per hour (TCC06-00-01). The board also approved court-related hires including Makayla Keating as Senior Procedure Clerk (effective Jan. 12, 2026) at $19.34 per hour. Separations recorded included employees from the E911 center, and the board noted long service by dispatcher Valerie Hartman.
Commissioner McGonigle asked whether departments have requirements for interns under age 18 and HR Director Angela Sorg said there are clearance requirements for individuals under 18, and that she was not aware of the interns' ages because dates of birth were not on the Coroner applications. McGonigle moved to table the Coroner interns until ages could be determined; the motion, seconded by Commissioner Finley, carried unanimously. The minutes record that Commissioner Finley said of Valerie Hartman, "She saved many lives during her years of service at the Center and endured many transformations in the 911 Center through the years."
The board's HR resolutions were recorded as Resolutions 2026-003 and 2026-004 and passed without recorded opposition. Next procedural steps include HR verifying applicants' dates of birth and required clearances before the Coroner Office interns will return to a future agenda.
