Speakers representing Lake Weatherford described recurrent disturbances they attribute to short-term rentals and asked the council to restrict Airbnb-style units on the lake. "Please restrict by restricting Airbnb locations, we foster a stable and cohesive community where residents can build lasting relationships," Melinda Smezny told the councils, urging protections for the lakefront's ecology and character.
Steve Smesny, speaking for the Lake Weatherford Community Association, listed concrete incidents and safety concerns: guests creating late-night parties, vehicles overwhelming limited parking and shoreline litter. "We've had that in the past, and we've actually called the police on Airbnbs in the past because of this," he said, adding that guests unfamiliar with lake rules can create hazardous situations and that the association's leases prohibit subleasing, which he said Airbnb operations violate.
