Scott Bushee, who oversees facilities and the transfer station, told the Select Board that recent state guidance treats mattresses as solid waste and that the station cannot store them on the ground. He said the town needs to procure a covered metal container (estimated $6,000–$7,000) and confirmed inspections are unannounced. "This must be done in 14 days," Bushee said, noting the operational and reporting updates required by the state.
Bushee also reported the town is exceeding annual tonnage limits and must submit quarterly tonnage reports (which are forwarded by the contractor to the state) and provide an auditor's report. He said the station needs a spill kit for lead-acid batteries and that Safety Data Sheets (SDS) must be kept in special folders to be compliant. Board members asked Bushee to obtain quotes for a mattress container and to confirm interim storage arrangements for electronics and other materials—Bushee said a temporary solution in the electric barn may be possible but is not ideal.
