Montmorency commissioners approve pursuit of USDA grant for sheriff's modernization project

The Montmorency County Board of Commissioners voted May 14 to proceed with a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant application to fund a modernization project for the Sheriff's Department. Chair Mary Hardies moved the motion and it passed unanimously (5-0).
The board directed County Controller Aprille Williamson to gather documentation about the required local match and other application materials. ‘‘Motion by Hardies, seconded by Peltier to proceed with the USDA Grant and for the County Controller to gather the information needed regarding the match for funding the Sheriff's Department modernization project,’’ the minutes state. The action does not commit the county to specific spending until grant terms and match requirements are known.
County officials said the Controller will return with information on match amounts and any necessary budget amendments before the county signs a grant agreement. The motion carried on a roll call of five yeas and zero nays.
