Putnam County School Board votes to advertise tentative 2026–27 budget, schedules public hearing

The Putnam County School Board voted unanimously to advertise its proposed tentative balanced budget and proposed millage for the 2026–27 school year and set the first public hearing for Monday, July 27, at 5:05 p.m. in the School Board Meeting Room.
During the meeting, Jonathan (staff member) reviewed the three TRIM-required items to be placed in the newspaper: a notice of proposed tax increase, a notice of tax for school capital outlay, and a budget summary advertisement. Jonathan said the notices and the budget summary “are what will actually be placed in the newspaper” and provided copies for board review. Chair (speaker S1) then called for a motion. A board member (speaker S2) moved to advertise the proposed millage and budget breakout; the motion was recorded as seconded and the chair announced the motion passed unanimously.
Board members discussed next steps for the advertised materials and asked staff to email an additional breakout document after the meeting. Jonathan committed to distributing the supplemental paperwork and to providing periodic updates on adjustments that will occur before the final hearing in September.
The advertised notice begins the formal public process required by state law; the July 27 hearing will allow members of the public to offer comment before the board adopts a final budget in a later meeting.
