Mayor Douglas Watkins read the introduction of Ordinance 2026-08 at the July 27 special meeting, a proposed ordinance to rescind Ordinance 2026-05, which had annexed certain property into the Town of Iowa under the Revised Statutes of the State of Louisiana, Title 33, Section 172, following a petition by Progressive Merchants, Inc.
Council Member Julie Fontenot asked why rescission was being requested. A resident identified in the minutes as Ms. Johnson asked which property the rescission would affect; Mayor Watkins said the property is located on the north side of the interstate. The introduction was informational; no vote on the rescission was recorded at the special meeting.
