Treasurer reports $20.4M in assets and HOT taxes surpass budget; audit update scheduled

Brewster County Treasurer presented the May financials on June 23, reporting total cash and assets of $20,429,006 at month‑end and total interest earnings of $61,240.18.
The treasurer noted that hotel occupancy (HOT) tax collections have already exceeded the year budget with $2,042,002 collected against a $2,000,000 target. The treasurer also reported total cash inflows of $1,341,554 for May and $700,818 in checks/payments for the month.
On audits, staff said trial balances and adjustments for the 2025 audit were received and that the auditor will present the '25 audit on July 14; preliminary field work for 2026 audit is scheduled for early August with final work late in the calendar year. The court accepted the financial reports and approved transfers and budget adjustments presented by the treasurer.
