Representatives from the Family Crisis Center presented the Sex Assault Response Team (SART) biannual report to the commissioners and requested the court review and approve the filing so it can be forwarded to the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault.
Naomi Hernandez identified herself as the SART coordinator and, with program director Virginia Sandoval, described the team's role in coordinating law enforcement, medical forensic exams, and victim services. The presenters said the county's submission is "a little scaled back" but contains the required elements and that TASA is aware. Hernandez asked the court to accept the report so it can be submitted to the state.
Commissioners pressed on capacity: the court noted the county does not have a full local SANE (sexual assault nurse examiner) team and that patients often must travel to Odessa, Midland or El Paso for forensic exams. The presenters said Van Horn is close to bringing a SANE nurse on board and that, once available, local exams would reduce hours‑long trips for victims.
The judge asked the presenters to prepare a one‑page summary of the report for the court to review and to notify the court promptly if any SART seat vacancies occur; the presenters agreed. No formal budget action was requested at the meeting.
