Superintendent Dr. Anselon told the board that June basic-education enrollment stood at "6,803, basic ed enrollment," and described overall district enrollment as "pretty steady" while expressing concern about primary-grade declines.
"We're still looking at the townhomes and watching the progression of those," he said, noting preschool signups include families from neighboring cities and may not reflect resident enrollment. He said final 2024–25 enrollment figures will be clearer in September and that staff will continue to monitor trends heading into the fall.
Dr. Anselon also announced the appointment of Aaron as the new principal at Sky Ridge Middle School, with an official start date of Aug. 3. He said the hiring process included more than 14 staff participants and student input. "He stood out for a lot of the reasons I put up there," Dr. Anselon said, citing Aaron's middle-school leadership background and student-centered approach.
The superintendent framed the hire as part of broader preparations for the year, including leadership development and a district focus on accountability and ownership. The board did not take action on the hire during the meeting; the announcement served as a personnel update and timeline for stakeholders.
