The South Dakota Transportation Commission approved two consecutive actions concerning S‑2851 parcels west of I‑29 Exit 193: a transfer of the State’s interest in the parcels to Codington County and a formal abandonment of the portions beyond the county’s proposed 100‑foot County Road 2 right-of-way. Department staff advised the Commission the S‑2851 project had been cancelled in the mid‑1970s and that the identified parcels are no longer required for highway purposes.
Commissioner Lynn Jensen moved to approve the transfer to Codington County; Commissioner Ron Rosenboom seconded the motion and all present voted aye. The Commission then approved the abandonment of the listed parcels (motion recorded; RESOLUTIONS #2026–6.2 and #2026–6.3 were adopted). The Aberdeen Region and Watertown Area offices recommended the actions.
The parcel list included multiple small lots and tracts described in Township 119 North, Range 52 West, with stated acreages (for example, Lot H1 contains 0.34 acre; Lot B parcels include sizes up to 5.61 acres). The Department’s presentation indicated the transfers meet the requirements of a Transfer Agreement with Codington County.
