Council advances Johnson property plan change to allow satellite fire station, approves on final reading

Council approved Ordinance 57-50 on final reading to amend the Johnson Park planned-development plan and to designate 5.6 acres of Lot 1 for a satellite fire station at Johnson and Military.
Planning Director Jeff Ray explained that the planned-development amendment changes a previous designation (education/residential) to allow a fire station and includes a site plan in the packet. Council moved to suspend rules, advance the ordinance to final reading and approved the measure 8–0. Councilmembers said they expect the station will provide better emergency coverage and thanked staff for moving the item forward.
Ordinance 57-50 was read for final passage and the roll-call vote carried 8–0; the ordinance text provides for an effective date in accordance with municipal procedures.
