Forest Service previews campground fee increases; 60-day comment period to start June 15

Myron Jeffs, recreation program manager for the Manti-La Sal area, briefed the commission on a proposal to raise and standardize campground fees across mountain campgrounds and rental cabins as part of a periodic fee update.
Jeffs explained the agency is seeking consistency across roughly 30–35 campgrounds and about 335 fee-based campsites and proposed a $15-per-night single-site fee, $20 for double sites and a $75 flat rate for rental cabins. "One of the main focuses of this proposal is to increase and be consistent across the mountain at a consistent $15 per site per night," Jeffs said. He noted the proposal excludes dispersed camping and that a public comment period will open June 15 for 60 days.
The presentation was informational; the Forest Service will send a formal letter and news release and the county invited public feedback during the comment period. Jeffs gave an example of a new fee being proposed for Joe’s Valley where a former fish-cleaning station area could become a group site and carry a new charge.
