Steuben Legislature approves several transfers, tire-amnesty and roadside cleanup fee waivers

At its Feb. 23 meeting the Steuben County Legislature adopted resolutions to support municipal cleanup efforts, adjust capital accounting and reallocate opioid-settlement funds.
The Public Works-related measures included authorizing the Commissioner of Public Works to waive posted tip fees for municipal roadside cleanup weeks (20 tons garbage and 10 tons tires for two weeks per year) and to host a one-week tire-amnesty event offering passenger-tire recycling at $1.00 per tire ("Tire Dollar Days"). The Legislature also approved closing the Smith Hill Bridge capital project and transferring $151,411.26 to a Future Bridge Capital Project and transferred $50,000 into a Spill Prevention Control capital project from various accounts.
In separate financial moves the Legislature approved transferring $1,276,103.04 from completed 2025 road projects to the Road Improvements Unassigned account and authorized appropriation and rollover of opioid settlement funds (see related article). These measures were adopted by roll call and forwarded to the appropriate departments for implementation.
