Sanibel planning staff and consultant Stantec presented a proposed stormwater-assessment program at the July 28 meeting, describing how assessments would be calculated and billed. Staff said the next step would be a formal notice to property owners scheduled to go out the following day; if the program is approved by council the assessments would appear on property tax bills in November.
Under the model shown to the commission, single-family composite assessments were presented at about $277.50 for FY2027 and condo-group assessments at about $80.51. Staff said other property types would be measured for impermeable surface area and assessed accordingly. Planning staff compared the proposed rates to programs in nearby jurisdictions, noting Sanibel's proposed single-family rate would be lower than Fort Myers Beach and Naples but higher than Cape Coral and Fort Myers on certain measures. The item requires council hearings before any assessments are adopted.
