The Dinwiddie County Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend approval of zoning amendment A‑26‑1, which updates county code language related to solar photovoltaic projects so it conforms with the Code of Virginia.
Staff explained that the draft ordinance would add a definition of photo‑voltaic projects consistent with state code, add solar photovoltaic projects as conditional uses across multiple districts (A‑1, A‑2, B‑1, B‑2, M‑1, M‑2, PMD and similar), repeal the former Utility‑Scale Solar Energy District (SED Division 18), and insert a new supplementary section listing conditional‑use requirements for photovoltaic projects that mirror state requirements. Staff told the commission the draft is intended to put the county “in compliance with the Code of Virginia.”
After brief questions and no public opposition, the commission voted 5–0 to recommend the amendment to the Board of Supervisors.
