Commissioners review FY2025–26 budget calendar and deadlines ahead of public hearings

County budget staff presented the FY2025–26 calendar and walked the Commissioners Court through the deadlines that will govern the coming weeks. Brianna told the court that the proposed budget was filed Aug. 8 and reiterated statutory posting and hearing windows: "The proposed budget actually has to be filed by August 15, and then a public hearing has to be held not later than the 25th day after, the budget was filed with the county clerk." The court heard that the final tax-rate calculations were posted in August and discussed options if timing required a special session.

The presentation listed steps for elected-official salary votes and grievance procedures: once salaries are proposed, elected officials have five calendar days to file a written grievance and the court must hold a public hearing within 10 days of receipt. Commissioners stressed the need for firm dates so staff can prepare letters and notices; the court expects staff to return with a confirmed calendar and any required public-notice copy so that the tax-rate vote and public hearings can be scheduled within the statutory deadlines. No formal vote on the budget occurred at this meeting; staff will advance remaining scheduling and notice tasks in advance of the next regular court session.
