Boy Scout asks how youth can help name new Creekside Park; committee invites involvement

A Boy Scout working toward his Eagle Scout award asked the Recreation and Parks Advisory Committee on Oct. 9 how youth can engage with the committee and participate in projects.
"What recreational spaces or opportunities will be available with a new city center?" the Scout asked, and staff encouraged him and other young people to submit name proposals and to share contact information for follow-up. Parks Director Erica said a public survey to name the park formerly known as Creekside Park is open and will be forwarded to the committee for consideration in November.
The committee highlighted multiple paths for youth involvement. The Chair told the Scout the committee would take his questions and set up a one‑on‑one follow up with staff. Erica noted the survey is posted on the city website and social channels and that she welcomes submissions that reflect the park's character. The park project itself will include a boardwalk, a 15‑foot path around the lake, amphitheater and planting areas, staff said.
The committee thanked the Scout for attending and asked him to leave contact details with staff so department staff could follow up about volunteer or project‑based participation.
