Porter accepts Lions Club donation of surplus rock for planned pavilion

The Porter Board of Trustees voted August 7 to accept a donation of surplus rock from the Porter Lions Club for use in a planned pavilion at Town Hall. Melanie Merritt, speaking for the Lions Club, said the group would donate the rock on three conditions: “the rock have to be used within a year, if the Town does not build the pavilion, the rock is to be returned to the Lions Club, and the Town will allow the Lions Club to have two keys to the Civic Center.”
Mayor Steve Dickey moved to accept the donation with those conditions; Norma Meyer seconded and the motion carried with all members present voting yes. The donation was discussed during the appearances portion of the meeting and formalized by the Board in the subsequent motion.
