RPAC reviews OC Park master plan; members press for drainage fixes, nets and lighting upgrades

Erica presented the OC Park master plan updates and walked committee members through items completed (lower-field restroom, playground renovations, pickleball striping) and items planned in future cycles. "Projects that were funded by the park bond specifically include construction of soft surface trails...and a new picnic pavilion near the tennis courts," she said while reviewing the plan.
Multiple members raised safety and maintenance concerns: persistent standing water in outfields, holes and gaps in netting that allow foul balls to pass, the need for nets between quads to protect spectators and concession areas, and warming-up areas behind walls. Erica said drainage upgrades that truly fix the problem are substantial capital projects but staff will look for short-term mitigation options and include suggested safety improvements in plan updates. She also confirmed the department has funding in the maintenance accrual account to pursue quad lighting in fiscal year 25, but said lead times mean installations would likely occur the following year even if approved soon.
