The Campbell County Planning Commission voted to recommend approval of PL-26-024, a request to vacate a 50-foot unopened right-of-way on Oak Grove Drive. Planning staff told commissioners the right-of-way was dedicated in 1954 and that nearby parcels already have legal access, so staff saw no public benefit in building the road.
Applicant Nathan Rokes, who identified himself for the record, told the commission the county-owned strip runs beside his home and his driveway effectively crosses it. “I would really like to own our driveway if at all possible,” he said, explaining that a shed and two large oak trees near the boundary complicate rebuilding or replacing structures to meet modern setbacks. A staff member confirmed the adjacent parcel is developed and has access from Greenhouse Road, so the vacation would not landlock other properties.
A commissioner moved to recommend approval based largely on the staff report; the motion carried and the chair reminded members the Board of Supervisors will make the final decision at its Aug. 4 meeting. The commission’s recommendation is advisory; staff will include the commission’s record and rationale with the matter when it goes to the board.
