Several residents and local officials brought distinct road-maintenance complaints to the Vernon County Commission on March 4, 2025, covering multiple townships. Karen Pettit asked the commission to address problems on 2175 Road in Dover Township; the Recorder of Deeds, Shelly Baldwin, attended and was advised to consult the county prosecutor about the issue. Commissioner John Shorten also followed up with a caller, Kasen Pitts, about whether 1375 Road south of Whipsaw Road in Moundville Township had ever been officially closed.
Other callers reported road hazards across the county: Randy Allee said 1300 Road in Deerfield Township needs maintenance; Elizabeth Johnson reported a hole in a Montevallo Township road and raised a concern involving a school bus, which Commissioner Shorten referred to Montevallo board member Jeff Parrish; Tammy Bobbett called about a hole on 1625 Road near Union Track Road in Drywood Township and was told Trustee Danny Laning would be contacted; and Jim Cochran’s Virgil Township road concern was referred to the township trustee and board. The commission did not record formal votes on these matters and directed callers to township officials or to county staff for follow-up.
