City staff: 100-acre-foot detention pond expected to be finished ‘by the end of this month’ if weather cooperates

Ray Mayo, introduced at the meeting as the presenter for Item 4, told the La Porte Drainage and Flooding Committee that engineers expect the 100-acre-foot detention pond project — including required access roads off Fairmont Parkway — to be complete by the end of the month barring further adverse weather. "They advised that they expect this project to be done by the end of this month," Mayo said.
Committee members pressed staff about weather-related risk after a colleague (Mandy) said a strong El Niño could produce a wet summer, stretching out project timelines. Mayo acknowledged the weather dependency and said staff will continue to coordinate with contractors and provide updates at the next meeting.
