La Porte holds Q&A for newly consolidated Shore Acres residents

Mayor Rick Helton opened a town-hall style question-and-answer session for residents of the recently consolidated Shore Acres, saying the meeting would be a forum for short, focused questions and answers. "In case y'all don't know, we've recently had an election, and the city of Shore Acres was lovingly accepted into the city of La Porte," Helton said at the start of the meeting.
City Manager Corby Alexander and department heads introduced themselves and stayed to answer questions about services that will change or transition. Staff said existing water service will continue as La Porte staff complete meter changes and account transfers, trash pickup will continue under current schedules until La Porte assumes operations, and a drop-off recycling center will remain available even though curbside recycling will not be provided. Staff urged residents to set up La Porte water accounts so billing and deposits can be reconciled.
The meeting also featured discussion of pier access and membership fees, neighborhood signage that was removed during consolidation, flood-insurance credits, drainage concerns, and emergency-preparedness resources. City staff repeatedly said they will follow up with written details and direct assistance for residents who need letters or account reconciliation.
