The La Porte City Council authorized the city manager to execute a three-year interlocal agreement with La Porte Independent School District to provide law enforcement services at district facilities during the academic year.
According to the police department presentation, the district will reimburse the city 70% of the salary for five SROs and 100% of the salary and benefits for one SRO sergeant. The agreement also includes an annual fee of $15,750 to cover uniforms, equipment and vehicle expenses. The police chief told council the reallocation reduces dedicated SRO positions slightly compared with prior agreements and will result in a net gain of one patrol officer for the city at the end of the 2025–2026 school year as positions are reallocated. Council voted to authorize the city manager to execute the interlocal.
