Council approves 204-lot subdivision with 12-foot and 8-foot masonry sound walls

The La Porte City Council voted to approve Ordinance 2025-4036 granting a special conditional use permit (SCUP 2026-0001) to allow a 204-lot residential subdivision on approximately 56.75 acres near the northeast corner of Wharton Weems Boulevard and State Highway 146.
Staff reported that the developer agreed to construct a 12-foot masonry sound wall along the western boundary adjacent to State Highway 146 and a masonry sound wall with soundproofing materials along the southern boundary on Wharton Weems Boulevard. City staff clarified that the ordinance text specifies an 8-foot wall along Wharton Weems even though there had been some discussion about a 6-foot option; staff confirmed the approved SCUP includes the 12-foot and 8-foot heights. Resident Mercy Estrada thanked council and staff for review of drainage and for coordinating with Cobb Finley to review the drainage report. Council voted on the motion to approve the SCUP and the motion carried.
